Terms of Service
Effective date: August 25, 2026
These Terms of Service govern your use of the WiseFin mobile application. By creating an account or using WiseFin, you agree to these Terms, the Privacy Policy, and the User Agreement.
1. The service
WiseFin is a personal finance tracking app. It helps you record accounts, transactions, budgets, and spending across household profiles; import bank e-statements (PDF or CSV) on your device; and view summaries of income, expenses, and investments.
WiseFin is not a bank, credit union, payment processor, money-services business, broker-dealer, investment dealer, or registered financial, tax, or legal advisor. We do not hold funds, execute payments, open bank accounts, or provide regulated financial products.
2. Operator and contact
WiseFin is operated by Shalin Patel ("WiseFin," "we," "us," or "our").
Questions about these Terms: support@wisefin.ca.
3. Eligibility
You must be the age of majority in your province or territory (18 in most of Canada; 19 in some) to create a WiseFin account. If you add household profiles for family members, you are responsible for that use.
You may use WiseFin only if you can form a binding contract and are not barred from using the service under applicable law.
4. Accounts and security
You sign in with Google (and, if enabled later, Apple). You must keep your Google or Apple account secure. We do not receive your Google or Apple password.
After sign-in you create a 4-digit app PIN. The PIN is hashed on your device and is never synced to our cloud. Optional biometric unlock uses your device biometrics. You are responsible for who can unlock your device and WiseFin.
One Google account can hold multiple household profiles (for example Personal and Partner). Anyone who can unlock the app can see data for profiles stored on that account. Do not share your PIN, device, or signed-in session.
You may stay signed in on up to two devices at a time. In Settings you can remove a device you no longer have. A removed device is signed out and its local copy of the ledger is wiped the next time it is online; the app is not uninstalled for you.
5. Your content
You retain ownership of the financial information you enter or import, including transactions, account labels, budgets, and categories.
You grant us a limited licence to process that content solely to provide, sync, secure, and improve WiseFin (for example storing confirmed transactions in PostgreSQL under your household, classifying merchants, and showing dashboards). Statement files themselves are not part of your stored content — only rows you confirm after review.
You represent that you have the right to upload statements and data you import, and that doing so does not violate your bank's terms or anyone else's privacy.
6. Statement import and classification
PDF and CSV import runs on your device. WiseFin does not log in to your bank. We are not affiliated with TD, RBC, BMO, Scotiabank, Tangerine, PC Financial, Wealthsimple, American Express, Rogers Bank, or any other institution whose statements the app can parse.
The statement file is processed in memory (or briefly staged on iOS when shared into the app), parsed for transaction rows, then discarded. It is not kept in WiseFin after import. You choose which extracted rows to save.
Parsing and category suggestions can be wrong. You must review imported transactions before relying on them. WiseFin is not a system of record for tax, lending, or official banking purposes.
7. Acceptable use
You agree not to: (a) use WiseFin for fraud, money laundering, or any unlawful purpose; (b) upload malware or attempt to disrupt the service; (c) probe, scan, or reverse engineer the app except as allowed by law; (d) scrape or resell the service; (e) impersonate others; or (f) upload data you do not have the right to process.
We may suspend or terminate access if we reasonably believe you have breached these Terms or that continued use creates legal or security risk.
8. Cloud sync, availability, and changes
When you are signed in, WiseFin syncs profiles, accounts, transactions, budgets, and categories to a Supabase PostgreSQL household ledger from devices that are still registered (at most two). Logout or removing a device wipes local data on that device; cloud data remains until you request deletion.
We may change, suspend, or discontinue features. The app may be unavailable during outages of Supabase, Google, Apple, your network, or device storage.
We may update these Terms. Continued use after an in-app or store listing update constitutes acceptance of the revised Terms. The effective date appears at the top of this document.
9. Third-party services
WiseFin uses Supabase (Authentication and PostgreSQL), Google Sign-In / Credential Manager, Sign in with Apple, and on Android Google ML Kit (text recognition and on-device Gemini Nano via the GenAI Prompt API). Their terms and privacy policies also apply.
App store terms (Google Play or Apple App Store) apply to download and billing for the store itself. We are not those stores.
10. Disclaimers
WISEFIN IS PROVIDED "AS IS" AND "AS AVAILABLE." TO THE MAXIMUM EXTENT PERMITTED BY LAW, WE DISCLAIM ALL WARRANTIES, EXPRESS OR IMPLIED, INCLUDING MERCHANTABILITY, FITNESS FOR A PARTICULAR PURPOSE, AND NON-INFRINGEMENT.
We do not warrant that balances, imports, budgets, or AI classifications are complete, current, or error-free. Nothing in WiseFin is financial, investment, tax, or legal advice. See the Financial Disclaimer.
11. Limitation of liability
TO THE MAXIMUM EXTENT PERMITTED BY LAW, Shalin Patel AND WISEFIN WILL NOT BE LIABLE FOR INDIRECT, INCIDENTAL, SPECIAL, CONSEQUENTIAL, EXEMPLARY, OR PUNITIVE DAMAGES, OR FOR LOST PROFITS, LOST DATA, OR BUSINESS INTERRUPTION, EVEN IF ADVISED OF THE POSSIBILITY.
OUR TOTAL LIABILITY FOR CLAIMS ARISING OUT OF WISEFIN WILL NOT EXCEED CAD $50 OR THE AMOUNT YOU PAID US FOR THE APP IN THE 12 MONTHS BEFORE THE CLAIM, WHICHEVER IS GREATER.
Some jurisdictions do not allow certain limitations. In those places, our liability is limited to the greatest extent allowed. Nothing excludes liability that cannot be excluded under Ontario or applicable consumer law.
12. Indemnity
You will defend and indemnify us against claims arising from your content, your use of WiseFin, or your breach of these Terms, except to the extent caused by our gross negligence or wilful misconduct.
13. Termination
You may stop using WiseFin at any time and may request account and cloud-data deletion as described in the Data & Account Deletion policy.
On termination, the licence in the User Agreement ends. Sections that by nature should survive (including disclaimers, liability limits, and governing law) will survive.
14. Governing law
These Terms are governed by the laws of the Province of Ontario, Canada, without regard to conflict-of-law rules. Courts in Ontario have exclusive jurisdiction, except that you may bring a claim in your local courts if mandatory consumer law requires it.
15. Entire agreement
These Terms, the Privacy Policy, the User Agreement, the Financial Disclaimer, the AI Disclosure, and the Data & Account Deletion policy are the entire agreement between you and us about WiseFin. If a provision is unenforceable, the rest remains in effect.
